Premier League Sack Race: Who’s Time is Almost Up?

PL Sack Race

As we go into the 11th week of the Premier League race, despite many surprise performances from some of the bigger names, not a single top-tier manager has faced the axe, but that hasn’t stopped the buzzards circling.

While nobody knows for sure what’s going on behind the scenes, there are a couple of names that keep getting thrown about, so what better way to keep track of things, than to stick everything in one place for you to see and speculate on who could be the next Premier League managed sacked. Remember, for up to date information, you can always check our Next Manager Odds page to see who the punters are backing as their top targets.

Erik ten Hag

Overseeing a horrendous start to the season, their worst since 1986 in the top tier of English football, Erik ten Hag’s days appear to be numbered. While concerns were downplayed or circumvented with news of a potential United sale by the Glazers, recent performances including a Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United which saw them knocked out the tournament have led to many believing he has lost the dressing room and that there is no way back. At the time of writing, BetVictor have him at 4/5 odds to be the next Premier Manager to leave, with legendary Frenchman Zinedine Zidane the most popular name to take his place at 4/1. Their game against Fulham this Saturday may well be the determining factor in whether his Old Trafford tenure comes to an end or if he lives to fight another day.

Andoni Iraola

Bournemouth have endured a rather difficult start to the season under new manager Andoni Iraola, having poached him from Rayo Vallecano this summer and ditched Gary O’Neil. With just 6 points from 10 games, including only one win against Burnley last weekend, they are currently 17th in the league, just outside the relegation zone. With back to back games against Manchester City and Newcastle, could he be the next to face the dreaded axe? At the time of writing, BetVictor have Iraola at 10/1 odds to be the next manager to leave, but expect this to become more favourable if the next games don’t go his way.

Vincent Kompany

Burnley have picked up just 4 points from 10 games this season and ex-Manchester City star Vincent Kompany could be in trouble. Sitting 2nd from bottom in the Premier League, with just 1 win against Luton Town on the 3rd October, their recent loss to Everton in the EFL Cup has piled further pressure on the manager, with upcoming matches against Crystal Palace and Arsenal likely to determine his fate. Currently, BetVictor have Kompany at 12/1 to be the next Premier League manager sacking, but a win against Palace could give him some breathing room in the short term.

Paul Heckingbottom

Currently last in the Premier League table and with only a single point earned in 10 games, Paul Heckingbottom is enduring a terrible start to the season with Sheffield United, and is on track to deliver the worst record in the league’s history. With nine defeats to date, including an 8-0 loss to Newcastle and a 5-0 defeat by Arsenal last weekend, it seems that the Blades are in need of some new direction and Heckingbottom would be the obvious casualty. At the time of writing, BetVictor have him at 13/8 odds to be the next Premier League manager to leave, and upcoming matches against Wolves and then Brighton could fast-track the board’s decision to part ways if they don’t get a result against at least one of them.

Steve Cooper

While Nottingham Forest sit 16th in the Premier League, the same place they finished in the 2022/23 season, Steve Cooper is anything but safe as the club look to push on from their promotion to the top tier in the 21/22 season. With their last win coming over 2 months ago against Chelsea and a 3-0 loss to Liverpool on the weekend, Cooper’s name might start becoming more prolific in the next manager odds circles soon. Currently, BetVictor have Cooper at 16/1 odds to be next Premier League manager to go, so upcoming fixtures against Villa and West Ham could prove decisive in seeing whether he stays or goes in the weeks to come.

Whatever happens next, the Premier League sack race is sure to heat up as the matchday’s tick by, so be sure to keep an eye on the latest news and updates as they unfurl here at BetVictor.
