The first kick-off for teams in the equally difficult Group C, sees Poland, returning for their 4th ever Euros tournament, take on the Netherlands, a one-time Euros winner who will be looking to emulate their successes of 1988-2008 where they reached the Quarter Finals or higher in every consecutive tournament. While the ‘Biało-czerwoni’ lost just two of their eight qualifiers, pipping Wales in their final game to secure their place in the 2024 competition, ‘the Oranje’ also won six of their qualifying games, losing to France twice including their most recent March game where they were stung 4-0. So with both teams set to do battle on the 16th June, what do the Poland vs Netherlands odds say about each teams chances to win.
A glance at the 2024 Euro Betting odds from BetVictor, at the time of writing, have Poland as the outsiders at 18/5*, meaning a £10 bet would return £46, whilst their opponents Netherlands, are priced at 7/10*, where a £10 wager would pay out just £17 if correct. The odds on a draw are currently at 13/5*, paying out £36 on a successful £10 stake. Despite it seeming like the Dutch team are certain favourites, the Polish team did reach the Quarter Finals back in 2016, so should not be underestimated when it comes to their resolve to do well.
While Poland’s coach Michal Probierz will ask his captain, the legendary Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski to lead his team out and continue to cement himself as the country’s most capped player and further his record as their highest ever goal scorer, Netherlands’ own Ronald Koeman will place his trust in captain Virgil van Dijk, to push their second-highest ever goal scorer, Memphis Depay, to extend his count and maybe even overtake Dutch icon Robin van Persie for first place. While it’s clear that both managers will be doing their upmost to lead their team to victory this Summer, early predictions favour the Netherlands to take all three points on the day and outscore Lewandowski and whatever threat he brings.
