It would be easy to call the defending Super Bowl Champions the favourites to win again in 2025. But the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves behind a pair of AFC teams, and now, even the Green Bay Packers, on the Super Bowl oddsboard at most Canadian online betting sites. Are the champs being disrespected? Or are bettors acknowledging just how difficult it is to win Super Bowls in back-to-back years?
The Eagles are returning most of the same lineup that trounced the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s Championship game. The defence has gotten younger, but the offence still has its main pieces, including Saquon Barkley, who is fresh off a 2,000-yard season.
This Philadelphia Eagles season preview will look back at last year’s campaign, what to expect this year, and the top betting markets at Canadian sportsbooks for the 2025 season.
Philadelphia Eagles 2024 Season Review
It was a banner year for the Eagles: a 14-3 regular season record and a Super Bowl victory is about as good as a season can get in the NFL. The Eagles won the NFC East Division for the thirteenth time in team history and the second time in the past three seasons. Philadelphia had six players go All-Pro and six Pro Bowlers from last season’s squad.
It was unclear how the Eagles would perform last year after losing both Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce to retirement in the offseason. The Eagles also brought in two new coordinators in Kellen Moore on offence and Vic Fangio on defence.
Philadelphia fought off adversity and dominated the regular season and playoffs. The team finished second in the NFC Conference behind the Detroit Lions and defeated the Green Bay Packers in the Wildcard round, the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional round, the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game, and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Saquon Barkley recorded the ninth 2,000-yard season in league history, hitting 2,006 scrimmage yards in 16 games. He finished just 99 yards shy of the NFL record after sitting out in Week 18 to rest for the playoffs.
Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East Division
As the Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 season, they will find the landscape of the NFC East division a little different than the past few years. Their long-time rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, parted ways with former head coach Mike McCarthy and have started a new regime under Brian Schottenheimer. The Cowboys also traded away all-pro linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
The New York Giants brought in quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason, after parting ways with long-time quarterback and first-round draft pick Daniel Jones. Although their offence should be better, the Giants are a long way from competing with the Eagles for the division title.
That leaves the Washington Commanders, who surprised everyone last year by riding rookie Jayden Daniels all the way to the NFC Championship game. The Eagles defeated the Commanders by a score of 55-23, but Washington established itself as the second-best team in the NFC East division.
Philadelphia Eagles to Win the NFC Conference
As of Week 2, the Eagles have the second-highest odds of winning the NFC Conference. The red-hot Green Bay Packers have become the darlings of the betting market and have overtaken the Eagles. This is mostly due to a 2-0 start with wins over the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders, as well as the acquisition of Micah Parsons from the Cowboys.
The Eagles were less than impressive in their Week 1 victory against those Cowboys, and have a tough test against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl.
The Packers and the Eagles are quickly separating themselves from the pack at the top of the NFC Conference. Behind them is a group of teams that are clearly a tier down, including the Detroit Lions, the Washington Commanders, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Philadelphia Eagles to Win the Super Bowl in 2025
The biggest question for Eagles fans is whether the team has what it takes to repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2025. Contrary to what the Chiefs have shown us, winning back-to-back Super Bowls is not an easy task. Only nine teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls, and no team has ever won three in a row.
At the top of the Super Bowl odds board are two AFC teams that haven’t made the Super Bowl in more than a decade. The Baltimore Ravens last won the Super Bowl in 2013, and the Bills have not been to one since their string of four consecutive Super Bowl losses from 1991 to 1994.
The Eagles will have their work cut out for them this year. Aside from the Week 10 matchup with Green Bay, Philadelphia will also play the Detroit Lions in Week 11, the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14, and the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo.
So far, so good for the Eagles in their quest to repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2025. But every season, new challenges and challengers arise to try and knock the champions off the throne.
