It’s a busy Saturday of racing, with Cheltenham’s Gold Cup taking centre stage. We also have jumping elsewhere at Uttoxeter and Navan plus all-weather action at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.
The Must Watch Race Of The Day
The focus must be the Gold Cup at Cheltenham which boasts a deep field. The top weight is last year’s Brown Advisory winner The Real Whacker. It would be a huge effort to win off top weight, but he is a very likeable type who got the better of a horse in Geri Colombe, who is now second favourite for the Gold Cup. Another Festival winner in Stage Star heads the betting at 9/2. The Turners winner perhaps is better suited to the trip and impressed many last season. You can see the full market here. Best of luck to whoever you end up backing, for me I will be backing The Real Whacker each-way and think he can outstay a few in here to at least be in the first three.
Nap Of The Day
On a busy Saturday, the nap could come from several choices, but I am going to opt to back Facile Vega, who at least is a half-decent price to make a winning start over fences thanks to Inthepocket running. Last year’s Supreme second is expected to make up into a fantastic chaser. If the current price is a shade too short, you may want to have a look at our ‘to be unbeaten for the season’ market where our traders have made him 10/1 to go undefeated this season.
Each-Way Play
A rare bet for me in a bumper, I think there is a really interesting race to close the card on Saturday at Cheltenham and at 14/1 I am keen to have an interest in Disco Daisy for Emma Lavelle. Emma has started the season well and this horse was mighty impressive when winning well at Chepstow. This demands more but she has a bit of flat speed in her page and I think she will at least out run her price for a team in fair form and is definitely one to watch this season.
Disco Daisy– 14/1
