Next Rotherham Manager in text

It’s fresh off the press, but after a 5-0 defeat to Watford on Saturday and sitting 22nd in the Championship, many were expecting Matt Taylor to be sacked as the Rotherham manager. Having left Exeter City to replace Paul Warne in October 2022, he has managed just 10 wins from 55 games, a dismal win percentage of just 18.2%, and much lower than his 43.6% at his previous club. So was this a ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ moment for the man from Chorley, or did Rotherham’s Chairman, Tony Stewart, opt for decisive action having watched an astounding 6 other teams do the same since the season started.

Just two wins from sixteen league games this season, The Millers were enduring a horrendous start to the season. After a 6-1 EFL Cup second round loss to Stoke City and a 3-0 defeat to Millwall in the league, the Watford drubbing seemed like yet another devastating blow for the club. So with their main man gone and no replacement confirmed yet, just what do the Rotherham next manager oddssay about a future successor.

According to BetVictor, at the time of writing, there are four big names vying for top odds, so let’s take a look at each of them. At 5/1*, meaning a £10 bet would payout £60, Gary Rowett, who was released by Millwall earlier this season. Third in our list at 9/2*, meaning a £10 wager would return £50, is Steve Evans, the current manager of League One side Stevenage, but with them sitting 5th at present, will the promotion to a Championship side be enough to woo him or will he prefer to stick it out with his current side. Second at 4/1*, where a £10 bet would pay £50, is Chris Wilder, the former Sheffield United, Middlesborough and short-term Watford manager, who played for Rotherham between 1992 and 1996, making him a quick fan-favourite. Lastly and in first place at 3/1*, with a £10 wager paying out £40, is Neil Warnock, the ex-Huddersfield Town manager, who despite stating he doesn’t want to return to management until the New Year, still tops our list. Perhaps it is his stint at Rotherham as an interim manager in 2016, where he helped them stay up in the Championship that could be his turning point, as he has formerly stated that this was the biggest achievement in his managerial career.

Whatever Rotherham decide to do next and whoever they choose to bestow the managerial role on, upcoming games against Leeds United and Hull City will be testing and could spell a difficult relegation battle spell if the results don’t go their way. Expect lots of drama and new ‘names’ to surface in the coming day, and remember to stay tuned to BetVictor for the next Rotherham manager odds as the Rotherham board work out their next move.
