Rangers, who currently occupy second place in the Scottish Premiership, have just announced that they’ve parted ways with manager Philippe Clement and his coaching staff, following a dismal showing in their 2-0 home defeat at the hands of St. Mirren. With there still being a lot to play for this season, the club will be looking to fill the vacancy as soon as possible, reflected in the volatile Next Rangers Manager Odds market.
Next Rangers Manager Favourite
After opening the betting at 33/1, former Rangers player Barry Ferguson now tops the list as 1/3 favourite to be named as Clement’s replacement. The Scot is out of work after leaving post as Alloa manager in 2022, so would be available to come in immediately if Rangers want to make a quick appointment.
Issame Charai, who Rangers appointed as Clement’s assistant in January of this year, is another name high up on the odds list. Charai joined the club from Strasbourg at the end of last month, and the Belgian has remained following the departure of Clement and other members of staff. He’s priced at 11/4.
Another two names being linked with the vacancy have history with Rangers, one as a former player and the other as a former manager, and they’re both available at 12/1, making them outsiders at present. They are, of course, Russell Martin and Steven Gerrard, with a £10.00 bet on either returning £130.00 if the club hires them.
Martin is out of a job after being fired by relegation candidates Southampton in the Premier League. Gerrard, who led Rangers to the SPFL title in 2020/21, was recently axed by Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq after almost two years in charge. Both young managers are thought to be keen to return to management.
Next Rangers Manager Odds Outsiders
Other well-respected names from the world of football are priced at 20/1 and more, with odds likely to change over the coming days. Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes, who played for Rangers and has been linked with the post before, is one of those names available at 20/1, as is Valerien Ismael, former manager of Barnsley, West Brom, and Watford.
Interestingly, Ismael, who was previously 7/2 to be appointed as the next Blackburn Rovers manager, has moved into 1/2 and is now the odds-on favourite for the Ewood Park job, according to the Next Permanent Blackburn Manager market. So Rangers would have to act fast if they want to hire him ahead of the Championship outfit.
Rangers, as one of European football’s most iconic clubs, won’t be short of applicants as they hunt for Clement’s replacement in the coming days. They remain one of the two powerhouses of Scottish football, and while the title will be beyond them, they are in second place, and they’re into the last 16 of the Europe League. So keep an eye on the Next Manager Odds page in the coming days.
