After four years at the helm, Millwall released a statement today saying they will be parting ways with club manager Gary Rowett, by mutual consent. While Rowett has been a regular face at the club since his departure from Stoke in 2019, 4 wins from 11 league games this season leave this sitting in 15th position, and have left many fans and the board feeling that they need to see more from a club that has languished mid-table since the 2018-19 season. Kevin Muscat is the favourite
At the time or writing, according to our own BetVictor odds, Kevin Muscat is the favourite at 5/2, with Michael Beale coming in second at 5/1 and both John Eustace and Mark Kennedy slight outsiders at 6/1. Muscat, who has already been covered in the news recently with the Rangers vacant placement before Clement was then awarded the role, saw interest pique in him when he won the J-League title this year with Yokohama F. Marinos.
While some fans may be concerned that the J-League is a very different one to the Championship, current Tottenham head coach, Ange Postecoglou himself, actually came to Rangers from Yokohama just two years ago and has performed exceptionally well since his arrival in the UK. But despite all this hopefulness, will the Lions be able to turn round a poor run of performances in time to still challenge this season?
Currently sitting 15 points off top of the table side Leicester City, Millwall can at least take solace in the fact that 3rd place Preston are only 5 points ahead of them. That gap can be closed even more if they can defeat them in their game this Saturday 21st October, when they travel to the Deepdale stadium to face Preston, with assistant Adam Barrett acting as caretaker manager until a permanent replacement has been chosen.
