It’s unlucky number seven for the League One table, as another manager bites the dust in the form of Dino Maamria. Sitting 19th in the league and having lost their last four league games on the trot, Maamria’s sixteen month tenure after taking over from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, to whom he had been assistant manager previously, produced a slight improvement as Burton finished 15th last season instead of 16th like the season before, but fell short of delivering the wow factor that was expected. As Gary Mills takes on the caretaker manager position, what next for the Brewers?
According to the Burton next manager odds, BetVictor, at the time of writing, have 4 main names in the run but a clear favourite leading the pack. At 6/1* odds is Dean Brennan, the current coach of Barnet FC, where a £10 bet would return £70. Next are John McGrath, a former Burton player and current manager of Mickleover, and Mark Bonner, with a £10 wager for either paying out £60. In pole position, however, with the shortest odds is Steve Cotterill at 4/9*.
However, the candidate whose odds have shifted the most is none other than Gary Rowett, a former Burton player and manager from 2012-2014, who was most recently the manager at Millwall until October. Overnight, his odds shifted from a clear 1/2* favourite to 7/4*
With two away fixtures coming up, against Oxford United and Charlton, Gary Mills will be under pressure to lift spirits at Burton and pull them further away from the relegation zone, where currently just 5 points separates them from Carlisle in 22nd place. If the odds are to be believed, however, it seems that Rowett’s experience as a former manager and player, coupled with his immediate availability could prove the answer to their problems. All that is left now is for Ben Robinson, chairman of Burton Albion, to appoint a new manager that can help the Brewers finally overcome their 6 year wait to get back to the Championship. Until then, stay tuned for the latest Burton Albion next manager odds or indulge in a spot of League One football betting as Burton travel to the Kassam stadium to take on Oxford United this weekend.
