Netherlands Football Team:

For the first time in 20 years, Netherlands have made it through to the Semi-Finals, and as the only team to do so without requiring Extra Time, they might have the fresher legs and mindsets when it comes to their game on Wednesday. Despite an unconvincing Group stage that saw them qualify in third place after a loss to Austria and draw to France offset their first game win against Poland, a convincing 3-0 demolition of Romania in the Round of 16 and a comeback against Turkey that saw them go from a goal down to two-one up inside 7 minutes show just what the Dutch can do when they are in good form.  While manager Ronald Koeman has no suspensions to worry about, their match against Turkey took an own goal, the 9th of the competition, to get them over the line, so he will surely be hoping that Gakpo can push past his current 3-goal tally to challenge for the Euros Golden boot and that Mephis Depay, the country’s second all-time top scorer behind Robin van Persie, can find his form and bag a few himself.

England Football Team:

Runners-up in 2020 and Semi-Finalists in 2024, England will be delighted with their achievements in the Euros so far, but arguably not with their performances, which have left a lot of work to be done. A shaky Group stage saw them qualify top with just 5 points, beating Serbia and then drawing to Denmark and Slovenia, while their Round of 16 required a last-minute piece of magic from Bellingham to beat Slovakia in Extra Time and their Quarter-Finals needed penalties to get over the line against Switzerland. Having been favourites at the start of the tournament, England need to urgently find their form and start showing the Euros what they are truly capable of.  With manager Gareth Southgate also having a full-squad at his disposal With Guehi back from suspension, his formation change in the previous game did seem to work for Saka, so perhaps he will look to reinforce this again, but hopefully with firm instructions for Kane to stay up the pitch so they have something to offer when clearing the ball. The re-introduction of Luke Shaw was another positive as he seemed to be in good spirits, so all eyes will be on Southgate to see who he decides to put in his back line against Netherlands on Wednesday.H2H Records: 34 – 10W, 10D, 14L

Having played 34 games against each other, and delivering a fairly even win/loss ratio, both sides will head into the game with the belief that they can overcome the other. While England have had the lion share of the wins across all games played, of their 9 games facing each other since the turn of the Millenium, England have won just one, four have played out as draws and Netherlands have beaten them four times. Whatever happens on Wednesday at Signal Iduna Park, both teams will look to throw the stats out the window and do what it takes to make it through to the Euros Finals on the 14th July.

Semi-Final Betting:

With both sides able to call on full-squads and with the just two games standing in each other’s way to a Euros crown, let’s see what the latest 2024 Euro betting odds have to say about who’s predicted to come out on top. According to BetVictor, at the time of writing, it seems to be incredibly close, with Netherlands just falling behind at odds of 2/1, meaning a £10 bet would pay out £30, whilst their opponents England, are currently placed at 6/4, so the same £10 wager would return £25 if they managed to pull off a win within 90 minutes of normal play. A draw seems equally similar, currently at 15/8 where £10 pays £28.75, but seeing that England have needed the extra minutes on both their previous games, it might not be the worst bet. With both sides placed 3rd and 4th to lift the trophy under Spain and France, it seems that this game has become the underdog of the Semi-Finals, but despite a lacking run of form that has seen them struggle in previous games, we predict that England will manage to beat Netherlands on the night, although an additional bout of Extra Time to do so can’t be ruled out.
