NAP of the Day – Wednesday 8th May

NAP of the Day

Trials season is well and truly underway, and Chester gives us the next set of clues for the Derby and Oaks this week. Today, we also have action at Gowran Park on the flat in Ireland, Kempton hosts an all-weather meeting, plus jumping at Kelso and Fontwell. Before we get to the Nap of the day, a big well done to BetVictor brand ambassador Gavin Sheehan who got off the mark for the new season at Southwell yesterday on Moonscape Girl at a huge 80/1 in the bumper.

NAP of the Day

Both the Vase and Cheshire Oaks look interesting races but ones I am keener to watch than back in at Chester. It is thus the first on the card I am prepared to have a swing at today. At the current price, backing this horse each way is viable and its an old friend of ours who was a winning NAP at Catterick last month. Stash The Cash will need to improve again to take this more competitive class three handicap but for me he ticks plenty of boxes. Tim Easterby’s horse has that key low draw that we know is helpful at Chester given the style of the track. This horse looks, on the face of it, to be ground versatile with the seasonal return win coming on heavy. The better surface today should thus be no issue. For me, the manner of the win at Catterick suggested more is to come. The clock also backed that up with the time looking a good one. Moving up from five furlongs to six should suit him well given how he finished his races. Whilst those out of that race who ran since have had mixed efforts, the third from the same yard has since won twice in a row and is now rated 80. I will be disappointed if Stash The Cash doesn’t at least place in the opener on a good day’s racing.
