NAP of the Day – Thursday 16th May

NAP of the Day

A frustrating week for the nap continued yesterday as we beat the market, but the horse ran well to a point, before hanging and that was that. He won’t be in my thoughts to back again until he shows a better attitude towards life on the flat! Today we have plenty of racing with York and Salisbury on ITV, with Limerick and Lingfield also offering us further turf flat action, plus jumping at Perth, Clonmel and Fontwell.

Dante To Provide Further Derby Clues

I think it is fair to say the Oaks trial yesterday at York didn’t shed much more light on the fillies race at Epsom, but today the Derby takes centre stage with the Dante offering further clues for Classic Glory. Ancient Wisdom will be looking to give the boys in blue another big race favourite as he has the chance to stamp his authority on this division and head the betting for the big race in a few weeks time.

He seems to have plenty of reasons to be the 13/8 favourite here. A winner first time out last season, he was a busy two year old with five runs returning four wins and they only defeat coming at Royal Ascot. The Futurity winner has got a few rivals to deal with here before getting too excited about Epsom. Caviar Heights will be fit and raring to go having had two starts already this season for Karl Burke more improvement is needed from the Listed win at Newmarket last time out but he looks a smart type. William Haggas runs the unexposed Economics who comes here with a different profile to those shorter in the betting, and I can’t see Al Musmak not improving again for the step up in trip. Make sure you tune in for that on ITV at 3.45.

Nap Of The Day

Plenty on but a jumps horse in my tracker stands out to me, one that probably suffered from the wet winter was Break My Soul. A well regarded Point to Point winner, he hit the cross bar a couple of times in novice hurdles before a good run on handicap debut at Newbury when third in a decent race. A 25 length winner next time out I expect him to make light work of his seven pound penalty at Fontwell today.
