Plenty of racing to start the week! Exeter, Leicester and Plumpton host national hunt racing, with Kempton hosting all weather action from late afternoon.
Nap Of The Day
Never too easy on a day like this to find a strong fancy but I will be having a bet on Duhallow Tommy at Plumpton in the 2.15 which is a two mile novice hurdle handicap.
Toby Lawes’ horse has been given an opening mark of 100 which looks fair to me on what he has achieved to date. This bumper winner has perhaps been a shade disappointing so far in his two novice hurdles to date.
Digging a bit deeper into the form, Dullhallow Tommy lost to Idy Wood at Fontwell last month which appears to be a very decent yard stick. Third place in that race, A Tickatickatiming has since won a maiden hurdle too. With all that in mind I expect Duhallow Tommy to go close today.
Ante Post Recap
No each way play today as I just couldn’t find anything I fancied too much, but I did want to highlight a few market movers in the ante post markets from the weekend.
Facile Vega made a winning start over fences at Navan and to my eye was pretty foot perfect and is now 3/1 to win the Arkle in March.
Burdett Road rocked to the front of the Triumph betting after a very cool win under Harry Cobden that has him 6/1 for the opening race on the Friday.
My favourite winner over the weekend with Cheltenham in mind was Bob Olinger who rolled back the years to win at Navan over two miles four. Rachael Blackmore gave him a great ride and as a result he is now 20/1 for the Stayers Hurdle in March.
The Must Watch Race Of The Day
Whilst not the quality of a Saturday, we do have a nice handicap at Plumpton to enjoy which features a good mix of runners with varying profiles.
General Medrano is the likely favourite for Emma Lavelle with two wins over fences this season since going chasing.
Brave Kingdom returns after a mammoth lay off of nearly two years due to injury. This is his chase debut but he has a very lightly raced profile and really could be anything. Whilst he is entitled to need the run, his presence adds a layer of intrigue Ree Okka, Martator and Hermino AA round off the field.
*Odds subject to change.
