Liverpool vs Everton Odds

The first Merseyside Derby of the year is upon us.

A generational melting pot of purple is what you’ll find when you step foot in either Anfield or Goodison Park. Families divided by the colours of red or blue find themselves walking to this derby together, only to scorn and heckle their 90-minute rivals as they pass through the turnstiles.

But best believe, you won’t see any half-and-half scarves here.

Season Review

Liverpool’s woeful season last year seems to have been patched by new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, who have injected a new lease of life into The Reds. Despite picking up an alarming 4 red cards in just 8 matches, they sit fourth in the Premier League on 17 points. This resurgence was more than welcome as, during the 22/23 season, The Reds showed signs of a severe hangover following on from the year where they almost won a quadruple.

Liverpool’s run of 5 consecutive wins in the Premier League was recently (and controversially) upset by Spurs in the dying minutes. This was followed by a 2-2 draw against bogey team Brighton. Given recent results against The Seagulls, Liverpool fans probably wouldn’t be too torn up about this. Well, if there weren’t two glaring errors that caused the goals.

Everton’s start to the season has epitomised the Everton of recent years; hovering above the relegation zone, lacking squad depth, and piling in uninspiring performances. Despite sitting in 16th overall, they travel to Anfield off the back of a convincing 3-0 win against Bournemouth, providing them with a morsel of confidence. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is injury free for now, and his physicality (and hold-up play) will be pivotal to The Toffees if they’re to get anything out of this match.

Two league wins in the last three may have instilled some confidence into Sean Dyche’s project, but if there’s ever a result to reapply pressure to your job- it’s a drubbing in the Merseyside Derby. He’s currently priced at 25/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave, which could well shorten if Everton lose.

Predictions

Liverpool being the heavy favourites here should come as no surprise to anyone. They are currently priced at 3/10, whilst the Toffees are much longer odds, priced at 15/2 to pick up all three points. Liverpool won 2-0 in this fixture last season, leading nicely into our value bet for this fixture.

Liverpool are averaging 2.25 goals per game, also conceding just over one goal on average per game. 4 out of 5 of Liverpool’s wins have been won by 2 goals or more, thus, we think that Liverpool -1 handicap at 4/5 could be a good selection.

Mohamed Salah has had an impressive start to the season, finding the back of the net five times and assisting other teammates on four occasions. He’s also scored against Everton for the 3 consecutive seasons now, netting a brace at Goodison Park in the 21/22 season. We’re currently offering odds of 5/6 for him to score anytime.
