While Ipswich Town’s return to the Premier League ended in relegation, striker Liam Delap enjoyed a breakout season in the top flight. The 22-year-old scored 12 goals this season, and showed there’s a lot more to his game than scoring goals. The former Manchester City attacker’s performances caught everyone’s attention from early on, and with a relegation release clause in his contract, he will be on the move this summer.
Delap’s a Fit at Chelsea
At the time of writing, the latest football transfer odds suggest the most likely destination for Liam Delap this summer is Chelsea, with the odds currently 1/1. While Delap will be one of the hottest properties in the upcoming transfer window, it’s fair to say that the striker is a fit at Chelsea.
Chelsea have signed a lot of players in recent seasons, and they’re now keen to focus on acquiring the best young British talent, and with Delap being 22, and a proven performer at the top level, they could go all out to get the deal over the line.
Could the Blue Turn Red?
Liam Delap came through the youth system at Manchester City, and it’s thought they retain an option to re-sign him on a first refusal basis, but the fee is believed to be £40 million. So it’s unlikely he will be making a return to the Etihad in the summer.
However, that doesn’t mean Delap won’t be returning to Manchester, as United are 13/8 to sign him. United, like several other Premier League outfits, are looking for a striker to lead the line, and Delap fits the bill. There are rumours circulating that the player has already held face-to-face talks with the club.
Delap In, Wilson Out
Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United is up in the air, and if the former Bournemouth man moves on, the Magpies could turn to Delap as his replacement. They’re 5/1 to sign him from relegated Ipswich, but everything could hinge on what Eddie Howe decides to do with his forward line.
It’s also worth noting that Delap will want to sign for a Premier League team where he’s going to get regular playing time. If Newcastle retain Alexander Isak, it’s unlikely Delap will start ahead of him or alongside him.
The Main Man at Everton
While Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are ahead of them in the betting, Everton, where Delap is 12/1 to sign, could be the ideal club to join. David Moyes is thought to be a long-term admirer, and he’s in the market for a striker with the profile of Delap.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is leaving the Toffees this summer, and fellow forward Beto continues to be hit and miss in front of goal. Delap could join Everton and play regularly, and this would positively impact Premier League betting online where the Toffees are concerned in 2025/26.
