Lee Sharpe: I expect Leeds to gain automatic promotion despite recent falter

Lee Sharpe Leeds United

Leeds United have faltered in recent weeks, but thankfully for them all the teams with title hopes have also slipped up. I still think Leeds will get an automatic spot and go straight up to the Premier League.

It’s been one of those periods where connections to all of Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich will be banging their heads against the table thinking, if only they could’ve pulled away from their fellow title contenders, but they’ve all hit a lull in form.

It’s a very exciting title race, especially for the people not involved! For the people involved it’ll be the least exciting thing ever, when you’re trying to stay out of the uncertain play-off spots and get that automatic promotion.

I have everything crossed for Leeds, they are a massive club and football need them in the Premier League, I’m sure they can hold on and dig themselves out of a couple of bad results and get themselves up automatically, because the play-offs are the most horrendous time of your life.

Leeds players don’t need to put so pressure on themselves

The Championship title-race is all about the psychology of it now, Leeds clearly have the ability and the team to win but now it’s about what’s in their head and how they approach their games.

There becomes a point in seasons, and I think it goes the same for the play-offs, where players and teams should go out there and play their own game. Leeds United players don’t need to put as much pressure on themselves, allowing them to free-wheel a bit more.

Sometimes you can have a couple of bad results in the league, for whatever reason, you may be a bit nervous and there may be added pressure for the teams at the top. This can lead to not getting the result that you’re looking for, which is exactly what Leeds have experienced recently.
