EFL Preview 10/10

EFL Preview

It may be the second international break of the 2025/26 season, but that isn’t stopping all the action in the EFL. There are crucial games to be played in League One and League Two. And, with more managers now heading for the exit, every result is becoming more important than ever before. We’ve picked out some of the fixtures from each league that we think you should be keeping your eyes out for, and as always, you can get involved at BetVictor sports betting, with full coverage provided.

League One

Northampton Town vs Rotherham United

Northampton Town, who were tipped to struggle this term, have put a decent run of form together in their last five, recording three wins and one draw. Their visitors, meanwhile, remain in the League One bottom three, and their last four results have been one draw and three losses. It’s not where Rotherham United will have envisaged being, and the pressure is on Matt Hamshaw this weekend.

AFC Wimbledon vs Port Vale

AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale are two teams in good shape right now, more so the home side. The Dons have won their last four games, with Vale winning three and drawing one. The top two is in striking distance for Wimbledon if they can carry on their good form, but Darren Moore’s Vale side will fancy their chances of taking something from the match.

Burton Albion vs Bolton Wanderers

Burton Albion vs Bolton Wanderers is a fixture between two teams with very different aspirations this season. The home side are once again battling against the drop, with recent form of a win and a draw evidence that they can pick up crucial points. Bolton, on the other hand, are looking to at least make the top six. And, recent form of three wins and one draw in five suggests they can make a fist of it, and they should have too much for Gary Bowyer’s team in the process.

Leyton Orient vs Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster Rovers and Leyton Orient are two teams who are out of form, with their respective managers, Grant McCann and Richie Wellens, needing to turn the tide. Doncaster have drawn one and lost three in their last four, while Orient have recorded the same. Home form could be a factor, and an advantage, in this one. But you can never write Wellens’ team off.

Stockport County vs Blackpool

While it’s been a great start to the new season for Stockport County so far, with the team sat just outside the top six on goal difference, the same can’t be said for Blackpool, who recently parted ways with manager Steve Bruce. The home side are a team that can get results, the away side need results, but the Seasiders will face a tough task taking points off a well-organised Stockport County.

League Two

Bristol Rovers vs MK Dons

Bristol Rovers and MK Dons are two teams that started the season with promotion aspirations. And, so far, that’s not exactly going to plan. Rovers are down in 12th and MK Dons have just snuck into 7th. The good news for both is there’s a lot of football still to be played, and both teams are more than capable of achieving their aim. The winner here will make a statement. And, both sides could win it.

Chesterfield vs Salford

Chesterfield were going along very well at one stage, but a recent stutter in form, which includes a 6-2 defeat last time out at the hands of Colchester United, suggests that they need to find their feet again. Similar could be said for Salford, who were in the top two, but following back-to-back defeats, they’ve slid down to 6th. Both could do with a win here to start moving in the right direction again.

Crawley Town vs Walsall

Crawley come into their toughest game of the season so far on the back of three straight losses, which is only going to make their task of taking on league leaders Walsall even more daunting. Walsall are the top team in the fourth tier right now, and they’ve won their last three games. They’ve shown no let-up so far in their hunt for promotion, and should have too much for Crawley on Saturday.

Gillingham vs Cheltenham

Gillingham have gone from being in the top two and undefeated, to losing their last two games and looking off the pace. They may feel Cheltenham are ideal opponents, who, until last week, when they won, had lost three games in a row. While you’d expect Gillingham to show their class against their visitors, they will once again be without manager Gareth Ainsworth in the dugout, so could this be something Cheltenham use to create the confidence required to take the game to their currently fragile opponents on the day?

Grimsby Town vs Colchester United

Grimsby Town are one of League Two’s high fliers, and they’ve won their last two games, which included a 7-1 demolition of Cheltenham and a solid 2-0 win over Salford. This weekend, they host Colchester United. Danny Cowley’s side may be down in 19th, but they’ve just defeated Chesterfield 6-2 and are buoyant as a result. Could another shock win be on the cards?
