The Big Bash League, known by other names such as Big Bash and BBL, is a professional men’s Twenty20 cricket league that takes place in Australia annually. It was set up by Cricket Australia in 2011, with the inaugural season being 2011-12. The Big Bash League comprises eight city-based franchises, and they are Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder.
The Big Bash League always takes place in the Australian summer months, so it runs from December through January and February. Of the eight teams that take part in the league each season, six of them have won the title at least once, with Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars yet to taste success. Only Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have won the title on more than one occasion.
The BBL format sees teams play regular season games before the finals series. The finals series leads to the grand final, where the venue is determined by a match in the finals series known as the qualifier, where the first in the league plays the team that finished second.

Which team has won the most Big Bash League titles?
The best performing team in Big Bash League history is the Perth Scorchers, who have won the BBL a record five times – 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, 2021-22 and 2022-23. Not only are they the team with the most titles to their name, but they’re also the current reigning champions, which is why they start as favourites to win the Big Bash League in 2023-24, according to cricket odds lists.
The Sydney Sixers are the Scorchers’ closest rivals in terms of Big Bash League titles. They’ve won a total of three so far – 2011-12, 2019-20 and 2020-21. While the 2020-21 season was the last time the Sixers tasted victory, they were runners-up the season after in 2021-22, losing out by seventy-nine runs to the Scorchers. The Sixers are also in with a chance of winning the BBL in 2023-24 according to the odds.
