The second kick-off on the 17th June, sees the second Group E Fixture, sees Belgium, Quarter-finalists for the last two Euro competitions, take on Slovakia, who have qualified for a third-successive time and will be eagerly trying to emulate their Euros win of 1976. The ‘Red Devils’ qualified top of their Group with no defeats and several large 5-0 victories over both Estonia and Azerbaijan, while the ‘Slovenski sokoli’ suffered two losses, but managed to win all their other games to qualify second in their own group. With those stats in mind, let’s see what the Belgium vs Slovakia betting odds have to say about which way the bookies think the game will go.
Looking at the latest Euro 2024 betting odds according to BetVictor, at the time of writing, Belgium are strong favourites to grab the points, with odds of 9/20*, meaning a £10 bet would return £14.50, while Slovakia are comfortable further afield at 11/2*, with a £10 wager paying out £65. If the match ended in a draw, the current odds are 16/5*, where the same £10 bet would pay out £42 if correct. While Belgium are 3rd in the FIFA world rankings, Slovakia are all the way down at 48th place, and with only two previous friendly meetings in the past 20 years, a win for Belgium in 2013 and a draw back in 2006, this could end up as a high-scoring game.
While Belgium’s coach, Domenico Tedesco, will look to captain Kevin de Bruyne and vice-captain Romelu Lukaku to lead the side forwards, despite de Bruyne’s own injury worries this season, and in the absence of veteran keeper Thibaut Courtois, Slovakia’s coach, Francesco Calzona, will place his trust in captain Milan Škriniar, to bolster his side after the retirement of their leading goalscorer and highest-capped player, Marek Hamšík, just last year. Although the Slovakian side produced some decent performances in the qualifying fixtures, we predict that this will be a simple victory for Belgium, and one that will help them on their way to coming top of their group overall.
