Spain World Cup Preview

After their Euro 2024 success, the World Cup odds favour Spain to go all the way in North America. Their only success came in 2010 when they were simply unplayable at times; minus the MD1 defeat to Switzerland.

And 16 years on, the Spanish appear to have that same swagger and natural confidence to take on and beat anyone in the world. Manager Luis de la Fuente is tasked with one aim and one aim only, bring home the World Cup trophy.

Spain World Cup Record

This year’s edition will be the 16th Spain have participated in and although they are one of the red-hot favourites, they have struggled in previous tournaments. Which is something to consider when it comes to World Cup betting with BetVictor.

Their best performance came in 2010 when they beat Holland in the final but last time out in Qatar, they were shocked by Morocco on penalties in the R16. La Roja also fell at the same stage in 2018 to hosts Russia. In 2014 as holders, they crashed out in the group stages.

Spain World Cup record summary:

  • Total World Cups played: 16 (including 2026)
  • Titles: 2010
  • Runners‑up: n/a
  • Did not participate: 1930, 1938 (rejected due to Spanish Civil War)
  • Did not qualify: 1954, 1958, 1970, 1974

Spain’s World Cup Fixtures

Spain can certainly live up to the hype as one of the World Cup favourites if they can exercise their strengths and attributes against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H. And it would take a herculean effort to stop La Roja picking up maximum points.

Newcomers Cape Verde are extremely unlikely to trouble the Euro 2024 winners but the Saudi’s will prove a slightly trickier opponent to navigate. Just as Argentina found out in Qatar. As for the Uruguayans, they should provide the sternest test but in reality, Luis de la Fuente’s are expected to breeze through without getting out of second gear.

As far as UEFA qualifying went for the Spaniards, they won five out of their six games and topped Group E ahead of Turkey.

Spain World Cup Odds

Alongside France, who won the tournament in 1998 and 2018, Spain are currently priced at 9/2 in BetVictor’s  World Cup winner odds market. That price is clearly a testament to how rich, vibrant and simply, how brilliant their squad is.

Many may consider Les Bleus to have the better squad depth but there’s no denying that La Roja’s starting XI is second to none. Although the Spanish have struggled in recent World Cup tournaments, the general feeling is that they will replicate the stunning success of 2010.

  • World Cup winner odds: 9/2
  • World Cup runners-up odds: 9/4
  • World Cup semi-finalists odds : 1/1
  • World Cup quarter-finalists odds: 4/7

Our Spain Team Markets allow customers to bet on the Three Lions tournament top scorer. Mikel Oyarzabal is the current favourite followed by Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres.
