Four Potential Premier League Suitors For Norway Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland

After starring in the famous 2-1 World Cup Round of 16 win against Brazil on July 5, Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has suddenly found himself in-demand from a number of Premier League clubs.

Superstar forward Erling Haaland certainly gained the headlines after his brace downed the five-time winners in New Jersey. However, Nyland’s brilliant first-half penalty save from Bruno Guimaraes and his heroic performance throughout made it possible for the Vikings to progress.

And even though the Norway vs England odds favour a Three Lions victory in the quarter-final, another fine showing from the veteran will certainly heighten interest in his services. And having left Sevilla earlier this summer upon the expiry of his contract, striking a deal will be a lot smoother for interested parties in England’s elite.

Who Could Sign Orjan Nyland This Summer?

Man City

Undisputed No 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma may have a new back-up goalkeeper this summer with doubts surrounding the future of James Trafford. The England international played second fiddle to Donnarumma in 2025-26 and a move away from the Etihad is a strong possibility with the former Burnley man desperate for more minutes.

And that is where Orjan Nyland comes in. The 35-year-old knows the Premier League from his time with Aston Villa but served mainly as a No 2 to Emi Martinez. Although money is no object to City, luring Nyland on a free would make sense if Trafford does move on.

Leeds

Although the latest Vozinha transfer news doesn’t link the Whites with the Cape Verde hero, a deal for Orjan Hyland is an idea that can’t easily be dismissed. However, Illan Meslier is set for Arsenal which has paved the way for the Whites to sign Japan star Zion Suzuki.

The Parma star is very much in-demand from some of Europe’s elite so keeping tabs on Hyland would make perfect sense. Especially as Karl Darlow has moved on during the off-season so the former Aston Villa man would likely play a key part at Elland Road.

Aston Villa

Despite a rather short and disappointing first spell with Aston Villa, a return to the West Midlands could prove a lot more fruitful this time around for Orjan Nyland. Especially as Emi Martinez could well be off upon the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

It remains to be seen if that will actually happen but manager Unai Emery will be more than aware of Hyland’s potential to re-adjust to England’s elite. The Spaniard may view Hyland as more of a reserve goalkeeper but he couldn’t fully rule him out as his No 1 after starring for Norway in North America.

Newcastle

With Aaron Ramsdale’s mediocre loan spell concluding earlier this summer and uncertainty over Nick Pope, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe could be tempted by Orjan Nyland’s availability. There’s no denying it’s a very transitional period at St James’ Park with a number of transfers already over the line in both directions.

A goalkeeper is considered a priority for the Magpies and although Nyland is entering his twilight years, he could make a smart and sensible addition. And with the financial restraints likely to hamper the Geordies once again, a free signing of Nyland’s quality could prove very shrewd.
