After a dismal result at the weekend against rivals City, it’s no wonder that the Harry Maguire next club odds are once again being touted, but with Maguire making two big clearances against Manchester City and having been man of the match against Sheffield United the previous weekend, are the fans starting to re-celebrate a player that has, for so long, struggled to perform for them.
Signed from Leicester City in 2019, Maguire was brought in to fix a frail defence, after the club has sold both Blind and Smalling in back to back summer transfer windows. While he quickly became a fan-favourite for his incredible aerial headers and dominant displays, his performances last year played havoc for both his confidence and the club, with so many one-on-one opportunities missed and having no option but to take responsibility for multiple goals being conceded. As the Summer transfer window opened this year and United boss Erik ten Hag stripped him of his captaincy, Maguire was an almost certain departure, with West Ham in pole position to sign him. Despite a fee being agreed, the transfer never materialised as the Hammers got tired of waiting for Harry to make a decision, leaving the defender in limbo at a club that has booed his name more times than they had cheered it in recent performances.
And yet, it seems that after yet another rocky start to the season, Maguire’s man of the match performance and relatively decent attempt to stop City mauling United worse than they did, have calmed the pundits and fans for the moment. At the time of writing, BetVictor does have the Harry Maguire transfer odds at 8/1* to West Ham and 10/1* to Aston Villa, however gone are the almost even betting odds for him to be ushered out the door with almost immediate effect. Of course, all it may take is another lacklustre performance for the fans to turn their backs on him again, but at least for the moment, it seems that Maguire’s head is off the chopping block. Perhaps the same can’t be said for his manager and some of the other stars, so stay tuned for more football transfer odds and updates as both manager, Erik ten Hag, and teammate in exile, Jadon Sancho, look to be the more likely of casualties in the short term.
