England Vs Uruguay International Friendly Preview, H2H Record & Betting Angles

The Three Lions Will Entertain Marcelo Bielsa’s Side On Friday Night

Wembley Stadium | International Friendly | Friday March 27 | 7:45pm

Ahead of Friday’s international friendly, BetVictor News has the England vs Uruguay preview, prediction, H2H record, betting angles and more.

England Vs Uruguay Preview

Although one of the favourites with BetVictor’s 2026 World Cup Outright Winner betting market, England will need to be at their best to get the better of Uruguay at Wembley Stadium this week.

The Three Lions sailed through qualifying with a perfect record. Eight matches played, eight wins recorded and not a single goal conceded. However, the South Americans are expected to provide a stern test to Thomas Tuchel’s side.

England named a 35-man squad for Friday’s clash and the following friendly against Japan on March 31. The idea is for Tuchel to utilize as many players as possible. For a number of stars, it’s the last chance to audition before the finals squad is announced for this summer’s extravaganza.

As for the Sky Blue’s, they’ll be aiming to demonstrate their credentials and prove they can mix it with the best. With former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, expect the unexpected. Bielsa enjoyed a fairly successful qualifying campaign which included famous wins against Argentina and Brazil.

Interestingly, the victory over Lionel Messi’s charges was their only win on the road in CONMEBOL qualifying. Although Bielsa’s side’s start as the underdogs in the England vs Uruguay betting markets, the South Americans have it in their repertoire to cause an upset in London.

England Vs Uruguay H2H Record

The England vs Uruguay H2H record sits firmly in the South American’s favour. Across 11 previous meetings, the Sky Blues have five wins to their name compared to England’s three. The last of those victories came in their most recent H2H encounter.

Legendary forward Luis Suarez scored both goals in a 2-1 win at the 2014 World Cup. That group stage success actually sent the Three Lions home from the competition in Brazil. Other standout victories include a 4-2 win in the 1958 World Cup.

As for Thomas Tuchel’s side, their last victory came in an international friendly in 2006. Peter Crouch and Joe Cole netted in a 2-1 win. The other two success came in 1964 and 1969.

  • England wins: 3
  • Draws: 3
  • Uruguay wins: 5

England Vs Uruguay Betting Angles

England’s dominant shot tallies and strong xG returns across recent games paint a clear picture. They are creating with real purpose and grinding opponents down through sheer volume of attacking play.

Uruguay, by contrast, have looked short of ideas going forward. The 3-shot performance against Mexico is alarming. A side that struggles to generate chances away from home faces a very different test at a packed Wembley.

The smart money suggests England to win is the foundation of any betting approach here. They are the form side, playing at home, against a Uruguay team that has shown defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of attacking punch in recent outings.

For those looking for a little more value, England to win and both teams to score could appeal given Uruguay did find the net against the USA, albeit in a 5-1 loss. But if Uruguay’s attacking output remains as low as it has been, a clean sheet for England is very much in play too.

England Vs Uruguay Team News

With 35 players in the squad for March’s friendly, a plethora of stars will not be available until next week’s fixture against Japan. Those in question include captain Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Rogers, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson and defenders Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly.

Seasoned center-backs Harry Maguire and John Stones are in line to start and are expected to be shielded by the youth and guile of Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton. Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Jarrod Bowen. Newcastle duo Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall should play full-back.

Meanwhile, Uruguay have a few familiar faces that will line up at Wembley. Current Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte is expected to be given the nod whereas former Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez should lead the line. Real Madrid baller Federico Valverde will also play from the off.

England Vs Uruguay Predicted Lineups

England predicted lineup:

Pickford; Livramento, Stones, Maguire, Hall; Mainoo, Wharton; Palmer, Bellingham, Rashford; Bowen

Uruguay predicted lineup:

Muslera; Valera, R Araujo, Gimenez, Vina; Valverde, Ugarte; Sanabria, De Arrascaeta, M Araujo; Nunez

England Vs Uruguay Prediction

The Three Lions will need to guard against complacency when they welcome Uruguay to Wembley Stadium on March 27. The South Americans were on the receiving end of a 5-1 drubbing by the USA in November but are expected to improve drastically in London.

Nonetheless, the World Cup hopefuls should prove too strong for their opponents and we are predicting a comfortable yet unspectacular victory for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Prediction: England 2-0 Uruguay
