Arsenal vs Leverkusen: Champions League Preview, Prediction, Recent Form & Betting Tips

Arsenal welcome Leverkusen on Tuesday night in the Champions League Ro16 second-leg with the sides evenly poised at 1-1. The Bundesliga side are the only club to stop the Gunners winning in Europe’s elite club competition this season – and they will have to be at their very best to knock Mikel Arteta’s charges out.

Despite the setback in Germany, BetVictor’s outright Champions League betting market still favours the north Londoners to go all the way. The general feeling is that Arteta’s men will get the job done at the Emirates Stadium this week and have the armoury to be crowned champions in two months time.

Arsenal vs Leverkusen Preview And H2H Record: Unfinished Business

The two sides went head-to-head last week, with Arsenal scoring a late equaliser to deny Leverkusen a famous win at the Bay Arena. The Gunners were the better team on paper, posting an xG of 1.64 vs 0.85 for Leverkusen, and controlling 55% of possession. The result perhaps flattered the hosts.

Historically, the English and German giants have only met twice in competitive fixtures with the north Londoners yet to taste defeat. The duo also played out 1-1 draw in the Champions League group stages in Leverkusen before Arsene Wenger’s side won 4-1 at home.

  • 11/03/2026 – Leverkusen 1-1 Arsenal (UCL)
  • 27/02/2002 – Arsenal 4-1 Leverkusen (UCL)
  • 19/02/2002 – Leverkusen 1-1 Arsenal (UCL)

Arsenal’s Champions League Form Deserves Respect

Arsenal’s perfect start to the 2025-26 Champions League came to an end last week but they are certainly the team to beat this season. Having won all eight league phase fixtures, last week’s 1-1 draw is so far the only blemish in what has been a hugely impressive campaign.

Form: DWWWWWWWW

  • 1-1 vs Leverkusen
  • 3-2 vs Kairat
  • 3-1 Vs Inter
  • 3-0 vs Club Brugge
  • 3-1 vs Bayern
  • 3-0 vs Slavia Prague
  • 4-0 vs Atletico
  • 2-0 vs Olympiacos
  • 2-0 vs Athletic Club

With five clean sheets in that run, the Gunners have further demonstrated their defensive prowess which has served them so well in the Premier League, too.

One pattern worth noting: Arsenal are most dangerous between 61 and 75 minutes, when a quarter of their goals arrive. If this game is level heading into the final half hour, the pressure will build fast on Leverkusen.

The one vulnerability? Arsenal’s most likely period to concede is the opening 15 minutes. Leverkusen will be aware of that.

Also worth flagging: Arsenal pick up the majority of their yellow cards (7) in that same 61-75 minute window. When they push, they press hard, and that can come at a cost.

Leverkusen’s Champions League Results: Inconsistent But Dangerous

Leverkusen have endured an indifferent Champions League campaign so far which saw them reach the Ro16 after seeing off Olympiacos in the play-off stages. In the league phase, they recorded a famous 2-0 win at Manchester City but were also humbled 7-2 on home turf to PSG. It’ll be interesting to see what side turns up on Tuesday night.

  • 1-1 vs Arsenal
  • 0-0 vs Olympiacos
  • 2-0 vs Olympiacos
  • 3-0 vs Villarreal
  • 0-2 vs Olympiacos
  • 2-2 vs Newcastle
  • 2-0 vs Man City
  • 1-0 vs Benfica
  • 2-7 vs PSG
  • 1-1 vs PSV Eindhoven
  • 2-2 vs Copenhagen

Five clean sheets – the same number as Arsenal – demonstrates the 2024 Europa League winners can shut-up shop but coming up against a side who has scored of a century of goals this term will test their backline to the limit.

Leverkusen’s attacking peak falls between 46 and 60 minutes, where 35.71% of their goals have come. The second half opener is a real pattern. Like Arsenal, they also carry their highest defensive risk in the first 15 minutes, which makes the early stages of this game particularly loaded.

Arsenal vs Leverkusen Betting Angles

Time-Based Bets: Tread Carefully

This is where it gets genuinely interesting, and where caution is warranted on BetVictor’s football betting markets.

Arsenal peak offensively in the 61-75 minute window. Leverkusen peak offensively in the 46-60 minute window. Those two danger periods don’t overlap, which means both sides have a realistic window to strike at different points in the second half.

Backing “next goal” markets or anytime scorer bets without accounting for these patterns is leaving value on the table. But equally, the conflicting timelines make first or last goal scorer markets tricky to call with confidence. The smart money suggests avoiding those markets unless you have a strong conviction on a specific player.

xG Tells a Story

Arsenal have consistently outperformed their opponents in xG across recent games. The Brighton win came despite posting only 0.47 xG, which is the outlier. Every other recent result shows the Gunners generating significantly more than they concede.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, have been on the wrong side of the xG ledger too often lately. The 3-3 at Freiburg (conceding 2.67 xG) and the first-leg result both point to a side that can be opened up.

The value lies in Arsenal’s ability to control games and generate high-quality chances. That xG dominance over the course of a two-legged tie is hard to ignore.

Arsenal vs Leverkusen Predicted Lineups

Arsenal: Raya; Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Zubimendi, Rice; Madueke, Saka, Martinelli; Gyokeres

Leverkusen: Blaswich; Andrich, Quansah, Tapsoba; Poku, Fernandez, Palacios, Grimaldo; Maza, Terrier; Kofane

Arsenal vs Leverkusen Prediction

Arsenal have won five of their last six games in all competitions and should prove too much for their guests to contend with. Leverkusen will provide a stern test but ultimately, the north Londoners have enough in their squad to advance to the quarter-final.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Leverkusen

Arsenal vs Leverkusen Weather Conditions

Kick-off in London brings 10.4°C, scattered clouds, and a low chance of rain. Wind is minimal. No weather excuses for either side.
