NFL Week 7 Picks: NFL Football Betting Tips and Predictions

nfl week 7 picks

Although it seems like the season only just started, we’ve already reached the week 7 point of the 2024-25 NFL. Currently, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Minnesota Vikings are the only two teams without a loss, while all 32 teams have managed to register at least 1 win. There are plenty of interesting matches to look forward to in week 7, as 15 games get underway between Friday, October 18th and Monday, October 21st.

On this page, we share our betting picks and predictions for three games, all of which will be getting underway on October 20th, 2024. We look at the Detroit Lions vs the Minnesota Vikings, the Carolina Panthers vs the Washington Commanders, and the New York Jets vs the Pittsburgh Steelers!

Game 1: Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings

  • Date: Sunday, October 20th 2024
  • Time: 1:00 pm EDT

This is a game loaded with potential that means a lot for both teams. For the Detroit Lions, it’s a chance to end the streak of the Minnesota Vikings and draw level, with both teams having a 5-1 record should the Lions prevail. On the other end of things, a win for the Vikings would put them two games ahead at the top of NFC North.

One notable injury is Aidan Hutchinson, who is out for the Lions for some time. If they are to continue their momentum from last season and once again finish at the top of NFC North, his replacement, the recently drafted defensive end Isaiah Thomas, will need a strong performance for the duration of the season.

Despite this air of uncertainty at the back for the Detroit Lions, their quality across the board should be enough to get them over the line as they look to repeat, or even improve, their 12-5 record from last season. Either way, this game has the potential to be a real barn burner, with the Lions’ formidable rushing attack facing off against what has been a somewhat sturdy Vikings defense.

David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs for the Lions are certainly the players to be keeping an eye on, combining for 699 yards already this season. On the other end of the pitch, Aaron Jones is a superstar for the Vikings and while he might find success, the reasoning behind our -1.5 Detroit Lions pick is simply due to their incredible and overwhelming offensive prowess.

Game 2: Carolina Panthers @ Washington Commanders

  • Date: Sunday, October 20th 2024
  • Time: 4:05 pm EDT

After a dismal season for them in 2023-24, the Washington Commanders are setting their sights on redemption in 2024-25, currently sitting at the top of NFC East with 4 wins and 2 losses. For the Carolina Panthers, however, it’s a totally different story as they are glued to the bottom of the NFC South table after registering only one victory this season so far. While many Panthers fans will be hopeful that their luck starts to turn around, a win against the Washington Commanders would be a real upset, especially at the FedEx Field.

While the Commanders would be heavily favored anyway, the Panthers are on a three-game losing streak as we head into week 7, allowing an average of 155.7 yards per game in the process. If similar stats remain, this will be heavily exploited by the Washington Commanders and Jayden Daniels, which could lead to a very one-sided scoreline.

The reasoning behind our Washington Commanders -6.5 pick is relatively simple. For starters, they are the favorite on paper and have the recent form to back this up. The Commanders have also put on a show in their last 2 victories, winning by 21 and 28 points against the Cleveland Browns and the Arizona Cardinals, respectively. If Jayden Daniels is playing anywhere near his regular level, a similar margin could potentially be on the cards.

Game 3: New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Date: Sunday, October 20th 2024
  • Time: 8:20 pm EDT

Our last game for week 7 takes place at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh as the Steelers face off against the New York Jets. The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a solid campaign so far, starting out 4-2, while the New York Jets will feel as if they deserve a better record, sitting at 2-4. While it’s never wise to point fingers in the NFL, many experts expected better from Greg Zuerlein, who missed two field goals that were fairly straightforward by his standards. These two kicks could have sent the Jets to the top of AFC East, but it wasn’t to be.

Despite these two errors, the interim head coach of the Jets, Jeff Ulbrich, has backed the veteran kicker who is likely to feature when they face the Steelers. This statement could mean that he’s still given full reign on the pitch, which could be key for the Jets in turning their season around.

The reasoning behind us backing the New York Jets incorporates this, alongside a couple of other factors that could make the game a must-watch. Of course, these are the recent acquisition of Davante Adams from the Raiders and Breece Hall starting to find some form. This can create a deadly offense for the Jets could be just enough to break down the Steelers in what may be a low-scoring affair.
