Next Sheffield Wednesday Manager Odds: Dave Challinor Favoured For Hillsborough Role

With one of the biggest jobs in the EFL up for grabs, Dave Challinor is the favourite in the next Sheffield Wednesday manager odds market here at BetVictor.

The Owls are on the lookout for a new gaffer after Henrik Pedersen was given his P45 after 15 months at the helm. Pedersen oversaw one of the most difficult times in the club’s history last season but had so far failed to deliver on the Yorkshire giant’s promotion aims to get back into the Championship.

And owing to his glowing reputation in the lower leagues, Challinor is the market leader from our traders’ perspective. Pedersen has certainly laid down the ground work and it appears as if Challinor will be the man to come in and rejuvenate Wednesday’s sluggish campaign.

Next Sheffield Wednesday Manager Odds: Dave Challinor The Heavy Favourite

After Henrik Pedersen was given the boot after back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Notts County and Doncaster, the next Sheffield Wednesday manager odds market strongly favours Dave Challinor. The former Stockport boss is nailed on at 1/8.

Challinor is regarded as one of the finest EFL bosses currently available having led the Hatters from the National League to League One. The 51-year-old came mightily close to leading County to the Championship last term but was beaten by Bolton in the play-off final.

Since the defeat to the Trotters at Wembley, Challinor left his post at Edgeley Park and has been without employment ever since. It’s likely that Challinor will lean towards taking the role at Hillsborough – should the Wednesday hierarchy push forward and make an approach to the former Tranmere star.

Contenders For The Sheffield Wednesday Manager’s Job

Although our traders firmly believe the Sheffield Wednesday gig is Dave Challinor’s, there are other contenders who could be considered. There’s certainly plenty of value in the the likes of Rob Edwards, Sean Dyche and Paul Heckingbottom for example.

The former is actually in the running to be named the next Burnley manager as well as a slightly longer shot to make a return to Watford. Edwards has plenty of EFL experience and was most recently with Wolves. He famously led Luton to Premier League promotion in 2022-23.

Elsewhere, Dyche and Heckingbottom are both available. The likes of Darren Ferguson, Karl Robinson and current interim and former Owls player Matt Hamshaw are also worth keeping an eye on. For now though, Challinor is the frontrunner.
