Next Hull City Manager

It came down to the wire, but 3 points was all it took for Hull City to miss out on a place in the Playoffs to challenge for a potential return to the Premier League, something that has evaded them since the 2016/17 season. Despite growth on last season’s 15th place finish, the board decided to sack Liam Rosenior, who had only just signed a 3 year contract extension in December, with rumours that the owner had expected to settle for nothing less than promotion. With the new season just a few months away, what do the next Hull City manager odds say about who the bookies favour as Rosenior’s replacement.

According to the latest BetVictor odds, at the time of writing, only two names sit at the top of the prospect list, with many others out at 14/1 and further. Second favourite to land the coveted managerial post is Paul Heckingbottom at 4/1, where a £10 bet would pay £50 if correct. His most recent placement at Sheffield United, before being sacked in December, was a mixed bag, with an outstanding 1st place finish in the Championship in the 22/23 season, before a tumultuous time in the Premier League, however his proven ability to excel in the EFL could be an attractive proposition to owner, Acun Ilicali. In first place, a huge front-runner, is Tim Walter at 1/5, with a £10 wager returning just £12. The German coach, who was sacked from Hamburger SV in February this year, is a free agent and while he has no English experience to boast, is rumoured to be highly admired at the MKM Stadium. While both options could be good fits, it will be interesting to see who the board choose and how they will cope with a fanbase that will expect nothing less than promotion next year.

With no deadline in place to choose a successor and the season at a close ahead of the European tournament this summer, all that remains is to wait and see what happens next.
