Harry Redknapp’s Premier League Week 2 Preview

Brand ambassador Harry Redknapp gives his predictions for week 2 of the Premier League, with Manchester City – Tottenham the feature game.

West Ham 0-2 Chelsea

I worry about West Ham, even at this early stage. They were awful away at Sunderland and I know a lot of the fans weren’t happy going into that game. There’s now huge pressure on this team.

I was surprised Chelsea didn’t get the job done against Palace. With all that attacking talent, all the money they’ve spent, to not score at home is poor.

I’m going for Chelsea. I just don’t see where the goals are coming to come for West Ham.

One to watch- Cole Palmer stole the show at the Club World Cup, but he hasn’t been at his best in the league for a while.

Man City 3-1 Spurs

What a game this could be, two sides that really started in style.  I thought City were outstanding away to Wolves, I was very impressed. They were full of energy, and they were so slick, it could have been more.

Thomas Frank’s started well as Spurs boss, they looked good against Burnley last week. They definitely seem organised, but I worry about them going forward, they look light in the attacking areas.

I think they’ll definitely be goals in this one, but I’m going for City. 3-1.

One to watch- I thought Reijnders was just magnificent at Molineux. If he can keep form up, he’ll be the signing of the season. I’m very intrigued to see him here.

Bournemouth 2-0 Wolves

Bournemouth have obviously lost a few players, but I’m not worried about them, they showed what a good side they still are at Anfield. They’ve made some signings, and I do think they’ll get better as the weeks go on.

Wolves weren’t great against City, but they did have a few glimpses of quality, and I like the lad Larsen up top, he’s a handful.

I think Bournemouth win this.

One to watch- It has to be Semenyo, he was unbelievable against Liverpool. I’m actually surprised nobody has come in for this lad, but let’s keep it that way!

Brentford 1-2 Villa

There’s a lot of pressure on Keith Andrews as Brentford gaffer and it was a disastrous start for the lad last week. I don’t think the Wissa situation is helping at all. Ironically, it’s similar to what’s happening with Isak and I just think you have to find a solution to it.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by Villa last week against Newcastle, Emery will want a big response here.

I just think Villa’s extra quality will show here.

One to watch- Morgan Rogers picked up an award the other night and what a top player he is. They might not have spent a lot this summer, but keeping this lad might be the best business they’ve done.

Burnley 1-1 Sunderland

It’s early in the season, but this feels like a big one for both sides! I can’t judge Burnley too much on that trip to Spurs, but they weren’t great. Looking ahead, they’ve got some tricky looking fixtures coming up.

It was a perfect start for Sunderland, that couldn’t have gone better. I see a real belief and optimism in this side and the fans just seem so excited to be back where they belong.

I’m going for a draw, I don’t think we’ll see much in this.

One to watch- Mayenda got off the mark for Sunderland last week and you always want your forwards to get a goal early in the season.

Arsenal 2-0 Leeds

I know Arsenal got the win at Old Trafford, but I think they can play so much better. They were typically solid at the back but going forward, I think they can be so much better.

That atmosphere on Monday night at Elland Road was amazing, and the side did the job on the pitch. I don’t worry about Leeds at home; can they pick up enough points on the road this season?

I just think Arsenal will be too strong here. I can’t see Leeds getting destroyed, I’m saying 2-0.

One to watch- I think it has to be Gyokeres, all eyes are on this lad. I’ll be honest, he wasn’t great at Old Trafford but a goal here would do him the world of good.

Palace 1-1 Forest

I’m so impressed by the job Glasner is doing at Palace, that’s them now 10 matches unbeaten dating back to last season. It looks like Eze is going now, but I think they’ll sign a couple of lads to try and replace him, and I trust Glasner to make it work.

Forest were good against Brentford last week and I think they’ll have another good season. They’ve been busy in the transfer window, and I like the additions they’ve made.

Two decent sides here, 1-1.

One to watch- Chris Wood shows no signs of slowing down, he took that second goal so well last week!

Everton 1-1 Brighton

Here we go then, the first competitive game at the new stadium for Everton! I like the look of it but you can never really tell how a team will settle into their new surroundings, it’s not easy and we’ve seen some teams struggle down the years.

Hurzeler must have been furious to have conceded an equaliser so late in the game against Fulham. Brighton are an ambitious club and I’m sure they’ll be targeting Europe again, it’s important that they start the season well.

I’m going for 1-1, but this is a hard one to predict.

One to watch- It’s got to be Jack Grealish. He came on as a sub the other night, but I’d be amazed if he doesn’t start this one.

Fulham 1-2 Man Utd

It’s hard to know what to expect from Fulham. They haven’t signed anyone, but they haven’t lost anyone either. They were alright against Brighton last week and I liked what I saw from the young lad, Josh King, he looks an excellent prospect.

United lost, but there was definitely more positives than negatives against Arsenal. On another day, they might even have won that game. The new lads looked good and I think we can see what Amorim is trying to build here, but that defence remains an issue.

I’m going for United, 2-1.

One to watch- Will Sesko get his first start here? He went with Cunha the other day and I think Sesko will be in from the start. You saw glimpses the other day of what a handful this boy could be.

Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool

What an atmosphere this will be, this will feel like a cup final or European night! There was already a little bit of needle between these two clubs in recent years, but the Isak situation has only made things worse. Those fans will be bang up for this one and I think the Newcastle players will look to send a message too.

Liverpool were scintillating at times going forward against Bournemouth but they didn’t look great at the back, and I do think that will be an area of concern for them.

I just don’t see where the goals will come from for Newcastle, they don’t really have a striker at the minute. I think Liverpool get the win.

One to watch – Ekitike was almost lining up for Newcastle, it’s crazy how this whole situation has played out!
