Harry Redknapp’s Premier League Preview For Matchday 30
March 14 – Saturday
Burnley 1-2 Bournemouth
Burnley are obviously a long way back and for Scott Parker, it’s just about getting some optimism ahead of next season.
Bournemouth have drawn their last three, so they’ll want to get back to winning ways here. If they do, that’s them right back in the race for the top six.
I’m going 2-1 to Bournemouth.
One to watch – Bournemouth’s superior attacking quality should be the difference here. Rayan could be that guy.
Sunderland 1-0 Brighton
Getting put out of the cup will be really disappointing for Sunderland and just puts a little dampener on their season. Still, they’d have taken Premier League safety all day long if you asked them at the start of the season.
I know Hurzeler wasn’t happy after that Arsenal game, but Brighton had been on a decent run of form and all but safe I’d say. It won’t be an easy away trip for them here though; his mood might get even worse!
A narrow home win.
One to watch – This might be a game decided by set-pieces. Ballard is always such a threat, don’t be surprised if he nods one in.
Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle
Chelsea were good in Paris the other night and well in the tie for 70 minutes. To go and lose three more goals was a real blow and quite undeserved. Chelsea are so close to being a very good side, they just need to cut out the mistakes at the back.
As for Newcastle, that was heartbreaking against Barcelona. They were so close to a famous, and deserved, win. Still, they’re alive in that tie so they have to take some of the positives from it.
I’m leaning towards Chelsea here though.
One to watch– Cole Palmer hasn’t really looked like himself for a while. He needs to find some form with the World Cup fast approaching.
Arsenal 2-0 Everton
Arsenal were hardly brilliant in Germany the other night but they came out of the game with a 1-1 draw and still in control of that tie. All things considered, that’s not a bad result.
I’m not quite sure David Moyes has got the credit he deserves for having Everton in 8th at this stage of the season. They’ve been a difficult side to beat on the road and will travel down to London full of confidence and with nothing to lose.
I think Arsenal get the win, 2-0.
One to watch – Madeuke made the difference in Germany during the week and that might see him start this one.
West Ham 1-2 Man City
West Ham are really showing a lot of fight at the minute. It would have been easy for them to sacrifice the cup the other night but every credit to them and they might use that as a springboard.
I couldn’t believe some of City’s defending in Madrid, they were all over the place! I know Valverde’s finishes were brilliant but it was far too easy from him. I just thought it was a strange performance from them.
West Ham could give them a real scare here, but I think City will just edge it.
One to watch – Haaland was anonymous in Madrid and truth be told, he’s not been great since the start of the year. He needs to find his shooting boots!
Harry Redknapp’s Premier League Preview – More Anguish For Tottenham
Sunday March 15
Crystal Palace 1-0 Leeds
That was a vital win for Palace at Spurs last time out and that’s put them on 38 points, that should be enough to see them stay in the league.
Leeds had been on a good run of form but a difficult few weeks has seen them get dragged back in the race, that’s what happens in this league.
Despite Palace’s Europa League adventures, I think they get the win at home here.
One to watch– Wharton was magnificent away at Spurs, absolutely sublime.
Man United 2-1 Villa
That defeat at Newcastle makes this a massive, massive game. A win here for United would open a three-point gap between them and really put the pressure on Villa.
Two defeats in a row for Villa have really scuppered their top four hopes and truth be told, they haven’t played well for a while. As good as he is, they’ve probably been too reliant on Morgan Rogers for a while.
I just think United are in a better place at the minute. 2-1.
One to watch – Sesko’s getting better as the season’s gone on. I think people probably forget this lad’s age, it’s natural that he might take a bit of time to settle in.
Forest 1-1 Fulham
That was a great point for Forest away at City, these lads are showing a lot of character. I keep saying it though, I worry about all these European games on a Thursday, that’s not ideal for a relegation fight.
I like Marco Silva a lot, he’s been brilliant for Fulham, but I can’t work out that team selection last week. Why not go full strength and try and go far in the FA Cup? Those Fulham fans would have been dreaming of a trip to Wembley. He needs a big performance here to justify that.
I’m going for the draw.
One to watch – Gibbs-White was just magnificent away to City and so much of their hopes rest on his quality.
Liverpool 2-0 Spurs
A tough one to predict! Liverpool were, let’s face it, not great in Istanbul. Still, a 1-0 loss in that stadium is never a shocker and I still fancy them to go through. At the same time, you don’t know what to expect from them this season, who saw that defeat at Wolves coming?
I’ve never seen anything like what I saw in Madrid the other night. I felt terrible for the young lad in goal, a disaster from the lad and I really hope he’s got good people around him. This is massive now for Spurs, they can’t afford another heavy loss here because the confidence already seems to be at rock bottom.
I’m giving Liverpool the win, 2-0.
One to watch – Wirtz was a bit hit and miss in Istanbul, Liverpool need more from him in this one.
Monday March 16
Brentford 1-0 Wolves
Brentford are another side that will be gutted to go out of the FA Cup. Keith Andrews has had such an amazing first year in the job, so that will sting a little bit. Still, they’re firmly in the race for that top six, particularly with a win here.
All of a sudden, Wolves can’t stop winning! They’ve shown loads of fight under Rob Edwards and they were worth that win over Liverpool.
You’d have to favour Brentford here, but Wolves won’t make it easy.
One to watch – Igor Thiago’s been such a revelation this season. That’s now over 20 goals in all competitions this season!
