When club legend David De Gea left United this past summer, the way he was pushed out the door was enough to turn even his biggest critics into an advocate of his. A former fan’s player of the season for multiple years, his recent mistakes in the net had started to prove too big of a problem for United’s faithful, which when coupled with his extortionate salary and the board’s demand to reduce it, dragged his contract talks on for months to see if there was still a role for him to fulfil at Old Trafford.
It didn’t take long, however, after Onana produced a series of similar and even more impressive errors in between the sticks, that calls to bring him back echoed round the grounds. In fact, if it hadn’t been for Onana’s last-minute penalty stop against Copenhagen, the voices would likely have reached unimaginable decibels. But is that enough to tempt De Gea back to the Red Devils, if only to cover for André Onana’s potential future absence should he choose to represent his country, Cameroon, in the African Cup of Nations.
According to BetVictor, at the time of writing, the De Gea next club odds do in fact have him even to rejoin United (1/1*). In what form this may come is hard to expand upon, but with the Saudi League at 3/1* odds, meaning a £10 bet would payout £40, and Real Madrid/Bayern Munich out at 10/1*, perhaps a shock return shouldn’t be written off just yet. That being said, whether the De Gea next team odds can be taken as anything more than the fact that this world-class goalkeeper is good enough to be linked with blockbuster team names like those aforementioned, remains to be seen. So what has De Gea said about all the noise? Last season’s Premier League’s Golden Glove winner has been training privately and, according to multiple sources, been teasing a return to football with social media posts of a football and goalie gloves. In fact, De Gea had posted a picture of himself with a completely different team shirt on just last month, however this was for his Rebels Gaming eSports company and not unfortunately a return to competitive football.
Wherever the Spaniard chooses to go next, be it back to United or off the money-spinning Saudi leagues, his talent is currently being under-utilised and we can’t wait to see him back playing again soon. For the latest De Gea transfer news and football betting markets, be sure to check back soon.
