After four successive defeats in the league and with only a single Football League Cup group win against Cambridge United to brag about, it won\u2019t come as a shock to see that Colchester have parted ways with their manager, Ben Garner. While manager sackings aren\u2019t as shocking as they used to be in the football leagues, this will be Colchester\u2019s 5th sacking since Steve Ball in February 2021, not including the 4 caretaker manager spells between them, so whoever takes the helm next, will have an unprecedented weight of expectation on their shoulders from both the fans and the board.

So just what went wrong for Garner? Having only taken charge in March this year, his win ratio of 25.93% for the club, clearly shows that his managerial appointment did not work, and despite a series of unfortunate injuries in the 22\/23 season, including the absences of Nico Lawrence and Fiacre Kelleher, his inability to turn round a lacklustre series of performances and currently languishing 23rd inside the relegation zone in League Two, with only Sutton United below them, left little to no choice for the Colchester board.
